Thank You, Juan Pablo Angel

Get Microsoft Silverlight

Yesterday was a pretty sucky day, for certain. Knowing since the beginning of October that our captain and the greatest striker in MLS history, Juan Pablo Angel, wasn’t returning to the New York Red Bulls was a kick in the gut as it was. In my head, I wanted him to stay in the league, but avoid any of our main rivals (which happened!). Instead, he landed in the lap of Bruce Arena, the man responsible from stealing him away Aston Villa all those years ago. So, if he signs with the Galaxy, I know that the wife won’t want to part with those tickets this year.

The Pink Cows Can’t Score

It’s tough watching the team struggle like they are. I used to find a way to blame Jon Conway, but right now, we’re very offensively stagnant and/or unlucky. Despite having the majority of possession, we aren’t attacking very well and are allowing the opposing teams to fall back into a defensive shell. It’s ugly footie, frankly. Last night’s 3-1 loss only highlights exactly what is wrong with the team: without creative people feeding Angel the ball (Lindpere and Nielsen were both out) we are pretty much a “bang it long and hope someone flicks it on goal” sort of team.

That or we flick it in. Like Salou or, last night, Tony Tchani.

Can Dane develop a “football mind?” I have no idea. Where’s Jozy when you need him? Thierry Henry might help, but the worst result from last night should have been a draw. That we also BLED three goals defensively (one 5 minutes after “Team Glidden” first scored and the clincher just after we had pulled one back), shows how little composure we have defensively. That’s not a skill issue. Someone needs to step up.

Vote Cepero for Save of the Week

Last season, our precious Danny wasn’t granted his rightfully earned Goal of the Week for his 81-yard blast into the net, the first for an MLS keeper. In order to make it up to him, let’s all vote his amazing save against “The Wookie” Dan Dichio as MLS’ Save of the Week, mmm kay?

Go here and vote now, he’s currently in 2nd with 23% of the vote! (edit: as of 3:25 PM ET, Danny’s in the lead with 26% of the vote, but it’s close…keep spreading the word!)

Last Season’s Great Goal for Danny Cepero

(Update: 6/18 – 4 PM ET)

We did it! Danny’s save was Save of the Week! Nice work, Metro-Bull fans, this is one accolade the “Pink Cows” can be proud of this year!

New York Red Bulls: Why Are We So Bad This Year?

Special Presentation: How to Lose a Season in 12 Games

Yeah, O-SORRY-O and JC gotta go. No wings being played against a team that attacks on the wing (Colorado)? Two crosses played to the far post (at the far post!) that are headed in for goals?

I know playing for Red Bull must be terrible, but if Erik Stover thinks JCO deserves a chance to right this ship, he’s sadly mistaken. We are BAAAAAAAAAAAAD and if you wonder why only 10K people managed to show up to watch this terrible game, you are effing really clueless.

Ugh…

So, in our most important game of the season, we played terrible. Great. That was an embarrassing effort that resulted in a 5-2 loss. It didn’t matter who was in goal tonight, although, Mike Richter might have been the best option for us.

Basically, we stink. I can’t figure out if I even want us to make the playoffs at this point because we really, really played terrible. This isn’t Conway’s fault or Parke’s fault or Cepero’s fault (he’s faultless in this entire mess and could have done NOTHING about this team’s performance before these last two games and I would argue he couldn’t have done anything about tonight either), or Agoos or anyone but Bruce effing Arena.

Yes, this douche:
