We Did It!!

Man, what a great day. Soccer by Ives just wrote the sweetest 4 words I have ever read: RBNY “waived goalkeeper Jon Conway”. I am BEYOND ecstatic that this happened at all; that it took this long is scary, but with with “Duckman’s” departure last week, as long as we don’t spend cash on any major, overpriced acquisitions (read: Khano/Rojas), we are finally headed in the correct direction. The last two-three seasons have been very difficult for this RBNY/Metro fan as my (now-)wife and I made the season ticket splurge two years ago and got to witness not only last season’s amazing playoff run, but this year’s epic collapse as well.

Yes, the chips seem down, don’t they? Who cares? 9 months ago when we launched, most people told me I was just bitter and crazy and that no one would EVER agree with me. Well, RBNY let the bum go and I kinda proved that I was right all along. While I don’t welcome the bad karma of wishing another man out of a job, I have a feeling he’ll probably con his way into another gig soon enough (and if the NJ-area player ends up in Philly and plays a role in hurting us, I will FREAK). He wasn’t the team’s only problem, but he was a big one.

I heart you, RBNY. Agoos is next.

Vote Cepero for Save of the Week

Last season, our precious Danny wasn’t granted his rightfully earned Goal of the Week for his 81-yard blast into the net, the first for an MLS keeper. In order to make it up to him, let’s all vote his amazing save against “The Wookie” Dan Dichio as MLS’ Save of the Week, mmm kay?

Go here and vote now, he’s currently in 2nd with 23% of the vote! (edit: as of 3:25 PM ET, Danny’s in the lead with 26% of the vote, but it’s close…keep spreading the word!)

Last Season’s Great Goal for Danny Cepero

(Update: 6/18 – 4 PM ET)

We did it! Danny’s save was Save of the Week! Nice work, Metro-Bull fans, this is one accolade the “Pink Cows” can be proud of this year!

Cepero Selected by Cosmo Girl as “Hot Soccer Guy”

Eff yeah, our little Danny got the call-up to the big leagues. I didn’t see any mention of Jon Conway on this list, must be that he’s a big ol’ ugly troll.

Cosmo Girl: KISSING ON THE FIRST DATE?

Cepero: Absolutely necessary. [Cosmo Girl]

You go, Danny. Slip that lucky lady your golden tongue.

Salt Lake Here We Come!

Holy effing eff, we are going to the Conference Championship for the first time in 8 years. This is a ridiculous day in MetroBulls history and we have 5 great saves (or 8 saves, according to ESPN) from Danny Cepero to thank for that. Let’s take a minute, build a shrine and thank this man for his ridiculous athleticism:

Yes, Dane Richards, JPA and Woly all had goals (and thanks for those, guys!), but when it came down to crunch time and the two-time defending MLS Cup champion, Houston Dynamo, were pressing hard for an equalizing and/or goal to reduce the lead, Danny played out of his gourd. Thanks to you, Danny Cepero, I have to go book my tickets to Utah. More thoughts later. Now, we drink heavily and eat Chinese food.

Vote of Cep-HERO!

Yeah, Danny Cepero might be my favorite player at the moment (and has been in the running this entire season, despite his lack of playing time) so I really would like to see the dude win Sierra Mist’s Goal of the Week. Head over the to MLS site and vote so that this dude gets the FULL credit for his awesome performance.

Go, please, vote: Sierra Mist Goal of the Week. The picture above is him as a wee undergrad at UPenn. Who would think that that guy would grow up to be the most blogged about goalkeeper in America? Not I. Hook the dude up and vote.

Red Bulls Reader – Cepero Gets Pranked

Red Bulls Reader got up their video of Danny Cepero’s pie face after the game, courtesy of Andrew Boyens. Here’s the clip:

Good goal, Cep-HERO!

At The Game vs. Columbus Part Two

A short, quick, sexy update that features a few of the pics from last night’s 3-1 win over the Columbus Crew. We got a few words with Danny Cepero after the game (we have mutual friends, which is how I heard about him to begin with) about his goal and crucial stop at the very end of the first half. The kid played clutch and I hope he can repeat his smart play on Thursday against the Fire. He distributed well which stretched Columbus out, and his bomb/fluke goal will live on in infamy as the first scored by a goalkeeper in MLS.

How awesome? Thanks to Ethan for the IHJC sign – too funny.

Cepero’s 80-yard Exclamation Point

It was a great debut by RBNY goalkeeper Danny Cepero and his strong handling of the match surely earned him the respect of all the 18K+ in attendance last night…then he scored THIS goal

Best debut in MLS history? No question. God Bless Danny Cepero. We still have a shot at the playoffs.
